Overview

Context

Meta integrity protects 4 billion users across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Threads.

Our goals: reduce harm on the platform, give users transparency and control over what was happening to their accounts, and meet 10 new regulations within one year.

Strategy

Three workstreams on one product system, scaling across apps. Every workstream had a short-term solution we shipped and a long-term direction we kept designing toward. The throughline: user-readable surfaces, not lawyer-shaped ones.

Impact

  • $10B in regulatory cost avoided

Enforcement

Enforce 47 billion actions a year consistently, and help users get back on track.

Short-term: a full-stack product system. New regulations shipped in 4 days instead of 8 weeks.

  • Account-locked notification explaining unusual activity and offering steps to unlock the account.
  • Emotional-health support surface with expert-backed resources for coping with anxiety and loss.
Long-term: the same system, rebuilt on the Meta design system.

Reporting

Help 36 billion reports a year reach the right category, without breaking compliance.

Instagram
